Med-Lemon Follow The Flu

When winter comes round, many thousands of people take to social media when they get ill to vent their frustrations. Med-Lemon recognized the opportunity to connect with potential customers on social media by creating a real-time flu tracking service, utilizing the geo-locations of tweets from sick people.

Digital Flow developed and implemented a dynamic website that shows how the flu is spreading around the country with a live heat-map of flu mentions, grouped into different categories such as headaches, pain or fever. Each person that tweeted their illness was shown on the map, and a flu warning indicator was created that tracks the voracity of flu based on the volume of mentions.

A world first, this flu tracker was also used in live TV content snippets with Digital Flow creating an animated heat-map of the spread of the flu, similar to how weather is reported on. This led to a highly engaging campaign that resonated with many people on social media, and connected them with nearby pharmacies where they could purchase Med-Lemon to feel better again.
